| Hello all! Been off the radar for a while I know but mini issues bring me back to the people who know best. I've been having engine problems with my '94 mini. It revs very high and doesn't stop when I take my foot off the acclerator. I had one of the mechanics at work look at it and he said the butterfly valve on my carb is very sticky. He fixed it but a few months on the problem has returned and he says I nedd a new carb or an overhall kit. Which is the best thing to get and where should I get it from? I don't want to spend a fortune but the behavior of my engine is getting more erratic. Hope one of you can help. |

I'm possible one of the least technical people here but as no one else has answered, I'm having trouble with my carb too but not the same thing. I think the carb kits are a cheaper option, but sadly have no experience with them to say how good or whether it will solve the problem. Have you taken the car to a good tuning garage? They are usually the best people to ask and they know their stuff. Not dissing your mechanic but sometimes it is worth the £70 to see the experts.
Sorry i cant help more.. _________________ Minis birthday and safminis too!!! |

Does the pedal return to it's correct position when you take your foot off ? it could be jamming on the edge of the throttle stop under the dashboard.
Try spraying WD40 on the carb external cable linkages to free up any grime that may be there. Are the cables fixed correctly? If this doesn't help then take the carb apart. It's not that complicated. Clean everything in petrol or similar and put it back together again. For once the Haynes manual has some helpful pictures etc if you have one. If you can't find anything obviously wrong try borrowing a working carb to see if that is actually the problem.
That's what I did anyway !! |

The cable doesn't return it makes driving in rush hour quite interesting! I've tried the WD40 route so I'll try the 'taking it apart and putting it back together' option (the mini equivalent of switching it off and back on again!) and check my cable and linkages. Anyone had any experience of the overhall kits? Any recommendations? Thanks for your input so far. |
